What
is Cyberons™ for Java™?
Cyberons for Java is
a collection of powerful Java class libraries for developing network
management applications. Collectively sold as Cyberons for Java
v3.5, it consists of an SNMP Manager Toolkit, SNMP Utilities, an
HTTP Server Toolkit, an SMTP Client Utility, a TFTP Client Utility,
and a lightweight logging utility. You can find information about
these components in their specific sections of this FAQ.
An oft-repeated mantra
in object-oriented interface design is 'Design APIs to be minimal,
yet complete'. Cyberons for Java components are designed with this
paradigm in mind, and like many other good things these days, can
be classified as 'fat-free'.
Who is the target audience for the product?
Proficient Java developers.
If you understand network management concepts and need to build
and deploy network management applications or solutions, you should
consider Cyberons for Java. The learning curve is not steep, and
we supply plenty of examples and documentation. It is a great choice
for 'schedule-critical' projects that need to be delivered 'yesterday'!
Network engineers who
monitor devices that understand SNMP - or who need to develop web-friendly
applications for systems administrators and operators, with friendly
email notifications of device failures or alarms - will find these
libraries extremely useful.
Cyberons for Java is
not intended for beginning developers in Java.
What can it do for me?
Other than provide a
RAD (Rapid Application Development) environment for creating world-class
network management applications? Nothing!
It can do the same for
you as it has done for our other customers - empowered them to create
sophisticated network management applications rapidly and inexpensively.
We at Netaphor use these
class libraries in our OEM products - OEMs such as Canon, Toshiba,
Konica, Panasonic, and Minolta. These global leaders in networking
technology rely on fast, robust technology that can operate in diverse
environments. Cyberons for Java provides this technology. You'll
find a sample of its use at http://www.metaconsole.com.
The low cost of Cyberons
for Java allows companies to purchase multiple licenses thus enabling
network management application development to be done more efficiently
and affordably.
And last but not least,
it can save you significant money over the competition's prices
for similar products.
What are the system requirements for Cyberons for Java?
Java development environments
that adhere to the J2SE JDK. JDK 1.1.8, JDK 1.2.2, and JDK 1.3 are
supported. For details, refer to the Programmer's
Guide.
What platforms are supported?
Technically, any machine
that supports the above system requirements. However, we qualify
the product on Microsoft Windows (9x, Me, NT 4.0, 2000), Sun Solaris,
HP UX, and Linux. For details such as versions, service packs, and
memory and disk requirements, please refer to the Programmer's
Guide.
What additional software will I need?
Whatever you use for
your Java development environment will probably suffice. While all
the class libraries can be used in the power-programmer-shell-or-DOS
box environment, you may choose to make your life easier using one
of the many IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) for Java
that are commonplace.
Other than one of the
J2SE JDKs, you need no other class libraries. To test your application,
though, you may need other software, services, devices, or simulators
as appropriate for your application.
